Bates Enforcers - Great Boots!!!
John BennettAround Christmas I bought myself a pair of Bates boots. I got a pair of the "Enforcer" series with 6" uppers. Supposedly these boots are popular among Postmen and law-enforcement types who stay on their feet for long periods of time. Well, after 6 months of hard use I can tell you that I am competely satisfied. I love these boots! The absolute coolest thing about this is the huge zipper that runs up the side. No more trying to drag my boots off my feet. No more tedious lacing and unlacing. I got mine at Academy on sale for around $80. Once you've had the zipper, you'll never go back to pull-ons or lace-ups! Here's some info...

dustyJohn, I'm really glad you posted this info! I was trying to find some boots for riding, but I have problems with my foot architecture. Anything that fits my feet correctly won't accomodate my wide ankles . I ended up shopping at Chuck's Boots in Lee's Summit, MO and tried on just about everything. Came across some of the Enforcers and was able to lace them appropriately to fit all the way up and down. The zippper is great - once you have them adjusted, it's quick in & out. And Chuck's sells them for about $65. Thanks for the tip! - Dusty www.hkrause.com/bike
John Bennett Glad you like them! $65 is a great price! Much better than I did. The only problem I've had with mine is that when I recently visited an outlaw biker clubhouse, several of the members who had recently been released from prison kept eyeing my boots suspiciously. I think they recognized them as "cop boots" like the prison guards wore. ==========================================

dustyThat's hilarious! Hope you got out OK. I probably won't have that problem since I'm too tame to go into a place like that anyway. But I appreciate the warning. I'm surprised that my brother didn't say anything about them yesterday... - Dusty www.hkrause.com/bike
klifHey John, I just picked up a pair yesterday at Academy to wear at work. My Hi-Tecs were getting worn out. Mine were $59.99 + tax. I love the zipper. When my "Harley", made in China, engineer boots wear out I will probably pick up another pair to wear for riding.
John Bennett Lucky bastage. We don't even have an Academy here. We did just get a Wal-Mart SuperCenter. I hate it. You have to walk a 1/2 mile to get to what you need. I was reading a cop forum the other day. They seemed to like th Hi-Tec brand better. I'm still liking my Bates. They are nice and broken in now. ==========================================

dustyHey, Kurt... Here are the boots we were discussing. Link to their website is above. Cheers! - Dusty I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific!
Tigerman67Good to see a good review of boots here. I had been wearing plain old hiking boots. I finally wanted a set of 'motorcycle' boots and I bought a set of joe rocket 'powerglide' boots. They look nice in all the pictures. One of the only motorcycle boots I could find that didn't have a HD (and and extra $20-$50) stamped on it, or look like a space walker in something designed for sports bikes. I think I can put a pic in here... let me try But on my feet I'm not sure of the quality of the boots. A large portion of the boot is 'man made material' that I worry will make my feet sweat this summer. You also have to put your own insoles in because there is no support in there from the factory. I will have to check out the bates. What about the hi-techs? what is a good model in those boots? Tigerman67

Thanks Dusty... I need to find a pair and see how they work with the bike. Can't tell from the images if they are thicker than the tennis shoes I wear right now riding. I've got limited mobility in my ankles and downshifting is a real pain as I have to somewhat lift my leg to execute the downshift. Next item for the bike is to see if I can find an extended or modified shift lever that is angled down just a bit more than stock. Kurt
dustyTigerman, I didn't have a chance to look at alternates - the local boot store just had the one type and they happened to be the same as John originally mentioned. I haven't worn mine that much, but they seem to do pretty well with perspiration since the uppers are partly nylon (or something similar) and very breathable. I have a terrible time with sweaty feet and these have worked pretty well for me on that count. Kurt, You might check local boot stores to see if you can find some to try on. I have fat ankles and don't like boots tight around the top myself, so it's hard to find something that will fit both my legs and my feet the way I like. These are nice in that you have lots of flexibility since you can lace them as desired and once you get the fit just right, leave it there and use the zipper. Only problem I've had so far is on a 200-mile day with lots of shifting, the top rubbed against my leg and created a blister. I've since unlaced them partway at the top to loosen things and carry a Band-aid to put on if it becomes a problem. - Dusty I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific!
