| Retro | I know winter isn't hear yet, but the days are getting shorter and pretty soon, ole man winter is going to be messing up our riding days. Any ideas as to what (if any) mods you're going to make to your scoooter this winter?
I'm thinking new beach bars with the wiring hidden, stainless steel cables, and finishing up the fork tin for behind my headlight.

| bear | I'm thinking maybe go to FL. and visit my daughter and ride my bikes all winter, LOL LOL
noli illegitimi carborundum |
| kc_harley | I'm thinking about having Lu make all the dings and scratches that I put on my bike go away this winter!! |
| xsrider | I'm gonna try to figger out how to make forward controls for my xs1100. And then, hopefully make them. |
| bikeralan | I have some Lester rims so I can run tubeless tires, make a single carb adapter so I can replace those damned 4 Kehins that give me fits.
And finally fix up the enduro my neighbor gave me, so I can teach my four younguns to ride, and then listen to my ex bitch about it lol.

| jhawker2000 | Retro,
When you use the cover behind your headlight you will then be restricted to using a handlebar mounted windshield as the chrome tin covers the area where the fork mounted windshield connects. That is to say unless you cut up the fork cover somewhat. I notched mine to accomodate some chrome signal lites but still no place to hook up my fork mounted windshield. I have a 17" National that I can hardly do without. My purpose in using the fork cover was to hide the rats nest of wires and hydraulic lines. I finally, since I need to have a windshield, painted the lower half of the windshield on the inside with flat black paint to do the hiding and left the cover off. It looks good and does the job but if I lived almost anywhere but western Kansas I wouldn't have a windshield.

| Retro | Billy - I know what you mean. This actually was what stopped me from finishing the project this Spring. I think that I am going to notch the fork tin to accomadate my shield mount. Riding in KS without a shield just isn't an option sometimes.
XSRider - You might email Sgt.B as he made forward controls for his VLX. He might be able to give you some hints on how he did it. Although the bolt patterns, and location would obviously be a bit different, the principles should be the same regardless of make/model.
Alan - Just curious as to what type of carb you are going to? Are you looking to build a custom manifold? if so, I know of a company that has been making custom manifolds for the VT1100s that enable us to use a single S&S rather than the twin Mikunis. If you want the web address of the company, let me know. They may be able to make a custom manifold for ya.

| jhawker2000 | Alan, There is a company in Florida that makes a complete manifold and carb deal for a single carb for the Wing. They are "Cycle Innovations" and they have a website and you can read all you ever wanted to know about it on their website. There are quite a few people that have done it. Paul Kapcin on the Delphi Goldwing Forum is one who has and he has been using it for two seasons now and he really likes it.
Retro, how bout sending me the rules for a sig pic. I like to keep changing mine and always seem to screw it up by a space, a quote mark or something else equally dumb. Over on Delphi I can try things out without bothering the board which I cant do here and I kinda like playin with the photos. Thanks.

| Sgt.B | No really Im not!! I bought the rear fender and tail light to look at in the garage. And I havent even began looking at how to drop the rear end by 1 3/4 inches with a bracket from bikercom. And I really havent looked into how to rake the front of the bike at all. But what I havent looked at even more is how one would go about putting a delorto carb one a VLX with a intake manifole made by a company in Germany. And now since you guys know what I havent looked at and am not planning on doing this summer, does anyone know where someone might get a spare VLX tank to say stretch a bit on the sides? I might know of someone who is interested if you do. But for me Im not doing anything to my bike this winter

| TheKing | I like the "Beach Bars" idea. I 'specially likes 'em when they have oysters, wings and shrimps for .25 cents each during Happy Hour!

| KCLu | King, would that make you a Beach Bar Fly?

| Sgt.B | Hey never mind on the tank, I think one was found

| AceRider | Going through alot of personal stuff right now so things will be tight. BUT..... I did get a set of fiberglass saddlebags that will fit with some modification. Now my only problem is finding SOMEONE who would paint them and my front fender to match my tank!!!! Anyone know a good painter that can do some Harlequin flames for me????

| KCLu | Very nice bags Nitey! You do good work man!
|
| FXSB | Chrome, Chrome and more Chrome.
|
| TheKing | You did those bags yourself? Heck I was excited because I changed out a horn without help! You guys are just too talented. Building those babies must have almost as hard as loading a picture on this site! (I can't do that either!)

| KCLu | That's ok King, that's what you have the rest of us for.
|
| Nite_Ryder | Thanks KIng , but i still Dont have a " MANLY HORN" MIKE [url="http://niteryder.homestead.com"] |
| MidniteRoady | My main project is already started. My cousin had an extra set of wheels, so I robbed them from him and sent them off to get sealed. I'll be able to run tubeless tires then. They should be about ready to ship back to me. My front tire is getting a bit thin, hope they show up fairly soon. Bought a rear caliper off the RoadStar forum to get chromed. May try and find chrome front brake lines... oh jezzzz.... so much to do...so little time... so little money... Farmer Mike 01 MidnightStar "I don't wanna pickle, just wanna ride my motorcickle" |
| Sgt.B | I have nothing planned as usual. Should be a good winter though, with all this nothing planned Ill have some time to get some studying done.

| KCLu | What is it I say in response to statements like that? hmmmm... oh yea... What the fahk ever!
|
| Retro | I'm workin on my list for this winter and I'm just going to post it here so I can refer back to it and check it off:
1) Replace V&H Straightshots with stock exhaust (and new crush gaskets) from an ACE T. Cut out the backplate and drill 8 holes in the baffles.
2) Build mouting plates for FLH bags mounting hardware and install the FLH bags.
3) Build (or buy) a stabilizer bar for the bag brackets.
4) Have Lu paint the bags to match. Possibly touch up front and rear fenders.
5) Change motor oil & filter, gear oil, and fork oil
6) Replace stock (incredibly crappy) Dunlop tires with Avon Venoms
7) Add Slime to the new tubes
8) Intall chrome hub on front wheel
9) Build and install leather fender trim (and possibly bag trim) similar to:
http://www.shermscycleproducts.com/NewFlaps.htm
10)Install bar wrap and lever wraps from www.chilhowee.net
list to be continued and modified....

| Sgt.B | Well the nothing I had planned is started and might I mention the first phase of it has turned out better than expected. I dropped off my expanded tank to lu so that she could slapp on the color. But then after some wise though on her part we decided to waite until I get some other "nothing" done to the bike so I wouldnt risk messing up a fine paint job... Sorry no pictures but as soon as she ges the tank primed I'll try to get some on here with a regular tank so you guys can compare the size adjustments.
![]() |
| dusty | Yeah, B... Let's get all the guys here started comparing and bragging about size!
I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific! |
| KCLu | But dusty, everyone knows that size doesn't matter, right?
My other broom's a Yamaha!
|
| dusty | Well, I suppose it might depend on whether the bigger size will help keep him going longer.

I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific! |
| KCLu | Point taken.
My other broom's a Yamaha!
|
| Sgt.B | Why oh why must everything I say be twisted so badly on this board???? As nice as I am I guess I make an easy target. And by the way the size difference will keep me going longer. And with the larger size I can ride harder without having to worry about running out of gas as well.
Ok twist away!!!!

| KCLu | So what yer saying B man, is that the wifey's happy with this change too?
My other broom's a Yamaha!
|
| Sgt.B | Allright after much thought and convincing from Retro I have decided to unviel the new improved bike. I still have to polish the horns but other than that I think were sturgis bound

| Sgt.B | You said hog???? My bad.. Must have gotten that confused due to all the times you guys have told me I was full of bull....
Anyway I can't believe you were the only one to respond to that. Man this board is getting dry these days. What happened? Did all the old folks go into hybernation?
