Softail Standard
FXSBAs most of you know, I recently got a '03 HD FXST. I have always rode mainly Harley (with a Trump, Suzuki, Honda, etc. thrown in for good measure)and was sure I would be really happy with this one. Little did I know how much this bike would surprise me!!! It is one of the easiest bikes to handle that I have ever been on, without exception. Quick, agile, comfortable, and just wants to go. The TC88B is as smooth as silk! The new wide tire is outstanding in corners and provides a great feel for the road. Drawbacks? a few minor ones in the bars and forward controls, but those are personal preferances anyway. I really have had to nit pick to find problems with it, I do wish Harley would figure out something to do with the altenator wires on the new bikes. I am just ready to roll past the break in point and will get a chance to see the real performance, but on the road it doesn't feel any different at 70 then it does at 50. Every bit as stable and smooth. Couldn't be happier, I have a number of pictures in my gallery of the bike, and will be putting up a new one of the chrome covered tail section I put on yesterday. If you go to a demo ride it's worth a try, it WILL surprise you. "Gray-hair bikers don't get that way by accident"
KCLuHey Scott, what's the wheel base and rake on that baby? Choo Choo's Night Train (same base bike) rides really smooth everywhere, and at about any speed she'll do... but I had a hard time handling her going slow. The rake was a bit too much... course, I know, you big strong biker dewds don't have any problem with that. Ride safe & Sparkly! Lu
FXSBIt's the same wheelbase and rake/trail as the Night train. The only major difference between ChooChoo's and mine is the 150mm tire that now comes standard. "Gray-hair bikers don't get that way by accident"
Sgt.BCongrats on your new ride. Its nice to hear when someones really happy with a bike, And its even better to get a report on how it rides.
jokerCongrats on the new bike. I test rode a Softail Standard at the H-D open house event recently and loved how it rode! Plus it had good power for stock. I have only had rubber mount, non-balanced TC88's ('01 FXD and '99 FLHRCI) so this was a nice change to not be shaking at stops. That motor is smooth up until about 55 or 60 mph. Then its still not bad at all, just a little vibration. I would love to have one as a second bike some day. But I still want to keep the Goldwing for those long trips. Steve

KCLuOK, OK, I stand corrected, never say never... I should have said... and generally doesn't want to share what he already has. BUT, I wasn't wrong about always wanting what someone else has, now was I? LOL! Unless of course we have any monks on this forum, and from what I've seen lately I'm thinkin' no one fits into that category!
