">| Can you get decent sound from a V4? | |
| klif | I have been playing around with my new Supertrapp pipes on my RSTD. I pulled off my Samson slip-ons. I have used different number discs, with and without the endcap, without the fiberglass, etc. I am just looking for that "right" sound. However I am convinced that I just cannot make this V4 sound like a motorcycle. I dont want anything obnoxiosly loud, just a little thumping sound. It sounds like a car. I guess I just have two too many cylinders. Next I am going to pull the silencers out and piss off the neighbors. If it wasn't such a great bike I swear I would get rid of it so I could get a better sound. But since it is such a fantastic bike I guess I will just have to live with it. :)

| bear | What??? you want more noise, for shame, for shame...don't you know that will label you as a bad -ss motorcycle feind or something just as bad, oh the pain on the ears you will cause your neighbors...talk about neighbors, we have a older couple living on the corner, I asked them last summer if I made to much noise at night when I come home, she said, these folks are in their 80s and I'm 62, oh no, I like to hear you come home, then I know you are home safe,..go figer that one out

| Jim | I think I would try some of the after market pipes for a V-Max. I have heard a few of those bad boys that sound goooood.
Not like a V-twin but, IMHO a much better sound, no potato(e) potato(e) but a growl that is wondermuss.

| KCLu | Well, I don't know all that much about this kind of stuff... but I do know they make 4 cylinder cars sound pretty tough these days, seems to be all the rage with the munchkins in our neighborhood. Find out what they're doing and see if it can be done to a 4 cylinder bike. I know, maybe that's just crazy, but it makes sense to me (but I've been sniffing fumes all day.

| bjojr | Humm, I've been told that the Royal Star sounds good with a set of Bub Pipes "Big Willy's" on them. Personally sounds like you want V-twin sound so it's time to trade the Royal Star for a Road Star a lot cheaper than a Harley and you'll probably get a better "trade in" at a Yamaha dealer over a H-D dealer, JMHO.

| Sgt.B | Try retro's technique, Just blow the baffle out while you buddy is riding behind you. But just one baffle if blow out both of them it really doesnt sound that good.
Hope this helps...

| Retro | I dunno...the cracked baffle rolling around in there didn't sound too bad. Of course, I wasn't right behind it

Sorry Klif. You have twice as many cylinders as God intended for motorcycles to have. You will never find peace and happiness until you get right with the Lord. Click here to visit the Lufkin, Texas MC Group! |
