KCLu	Hey, has anyone made reservations yet? I think I'm going to in the next day or so... I checked KOA's web site and a tent site for 2 people is $17-21 per night, pretty cheap lodging, I'd say. Here's a link in case anyone wants to check it out. http://www.koa.com/where/IA/15105.htm They have fire wood there, but we have to buy it. Are we gonna go out to eat? I hope. [:)] I cheked and there's a Subway & a McDonald's not too far from KOA. There's also several little individually owned restaurants, so maybe we'll get lucky and find a diner. OK, whose taking care of the weather for this get together? I tried to handle the weather for Algona and failed miserably on Hwy 169, although you guys at camp were staying dry. LOL! PJD	Although KOA's are franchised and so more or less privately owned I have never had a problem with a bike in any of their campgrounds. In fact on our last trip there were several in the campground including a couple from England on a rented HD doing a tour of the US. The Brits rented a cabin wihle the others were in tents or small tow behind pop-ups. It would be wise to check but I forsee no problem unless it's with open "containers". Some have a loosley enforced rule on that. The ex-wife and I made a trip out there on bike in the early 80's. (I'll have to see if I can find a pix of my first 2 wheeled camper lol) Found out at that time after going to about 5 private campgrounds that none of them allowed bikes. Someone said they had a little problem with the Angels. We stayed at a state campground, I think it was by Mirror Lake and it was great. The campsites were nicer and it was cheaper. Met a few others that were there on bike and had a great time. Don't know if things have changed I haven't camped in the Dells since. Retro	Yup. I suggested the 17th, but did that without looking at the FORR newsletter for rally dates. I've been planning on the Branson rally, just forgot the date. Let's say the 24th. I had already arranged for a babysitter that weekend, asked the boss for the weekend off, rented a sidecar for my bike so I can bring a hooker with me, and bought an armor plate to put in the back of my vest for protection against flying objects! 1wildhair	Bob is right - that is Memorial Day Weekend. Better make sure we have some campsites or a shelter. State parks tend to get very crowded that weekend. Got it on my calendar - the only thing that might keep me from being there is if my daughter graduates that weekend. Retro	The state park outside Waterloo does not accept reservations for camping: http://www.state.ia.us/dnr/organiza/ppd/camping.htm Basically, it appears to be one of those drive up and register and put your money in an envelope in the slot kinda things. You can also watch a variety of wildlife and enjoy the scenery of the Native Iowa Prairie Restoration. Handicap Accessible. Camping Martin Park Fletcher Ave. and Highway 63, Waterloo 188 acre park with modern campsites available. Also includes picnic areas, hiking trails, fishing stream, playground, ball diamonds, cross-country skiing, and wildlife refuge. Handicap accessible. Camping Black Hawk Park 2410 W. Lone Tree Road, Cedar Falls This 1768 acre park offers modern campsites, picnic areas, hiking, biking & bridle trails, fishing stream & lake, boat ramp, hunting, playground, ball diamond, cross-country skiing, hockey/ice skating, archery-gun-sporting, clay ranges, & lodge. Handicap accessible. Camping George Wyth State Park Highways 218 and 57, Cedar Falls This 1100 acre park includes modern campsites, picnic areas, hiking & biking trails, a beach, fishing stream & lakes, boat ramp, playgrounds, cross-country skiing, hockey/ice skating, snowmobiling, and prairie reconstruction. Handicap accessible. Camping The other option is this place that is a privately owned campground. Antique Acres 7610 Waverly Road, Cedar Falls A modern 70-site campground is available. Located on the grounds of a unique collection of restored and preserved antique steam, saw milling and farm machinery. KCLu	Well, other than the last one listed above, I can't seem to find anything in that area that accepts reservations... so, what do you guys wanna do? Looks like in that area we'll just hav to ride up & take pot luck on camping... we don't take up too much space with scooters & tents... most of the campgrounds in that area say they have fewer than 50 sites, even though some of the parks are pretty massive. 1wildhair	Here's my .$02. I suggest we try the first one (Katoski Greenbelt West of Highway 63, Waterloo ) since all it lists are primitive campsites. All the rest have "modern campsites" and will probably be full of RVs & trailers, paved "hiking" trails, plastic tricycles & portable televisions by Fri night. Perhaps Bear could get to Katoski Greenbelt early & stake something out. Doesn't look like we'll have a huge group. And I suggest everyone bring a cell phone & exchange #'s in the event things change on the road. (Yes, I finally broke down & got one) Looks like I may have a friend of mine come along as well as the missus (if I can convince her to camp) Nobody tell her a primitive camping area was my suggestion!! Retro	Bear got an email back from the people at the George Wyth State Park and here's what it says: quote: Yes, we do allow motorcyclist to camp. You may use our non-electrical sites or electrical sites. They will be $11.00 and $16.00 respectively per night. The roads are paved through the park and campground. You are allowed on camping unit per site and a smaller tent for juveniles under the age of 18. We do not take reservation in the state parks it is first come first serve basis. Although just to get an idea of how far away it is from me living in Colorado, I stuck it in mapquest and it told me the shortest way is to go through nebraska all the waythrough along I-80. That is an awful lot of nebraska to have to ride through in order to do some camping. What kind of weather could you expect for memorial day. Living here, and camping in the mountains, it is always a crap shoot for Memorial day, might be beutiful, or might freeze you backside clean off.

Gulbie	Man I don't think Penny will ride again until I get a wing, 1 trip to Stugis and back kindda put an end to her riding. She likes that barcalounger on the back end. Just found out my youngest gradutes high school the weekend after Memorial Day, then a fishing trip with my dad, then my parents 50th anniversary party, then the Cancer Ride. This coming weekend is a must-do ride with my local Star Chapter. That leaves me one weekend to spruce up the house & yard - May 24/25. And my oldest daughter is getting married in August (in Washingtom state), so I gotta take the time off to go there. Add to that (or subtract) a cash in-flow crunch - my wife has joined the ranks of the unemployed. [V] Just too much to do, too litle cash to do everything - especially in May & June. Tigerman67	I'm probably in the maybe catagory as well. Its a heck of a long ride to do some camping very early in the season. Tigerman67	Looks like I am out of the First Annual UB Rally. Decided to go to Red River Rally instead. Alot closer to home for me, so I can get down there in one day easily.
